Jorge Delgardo-Trained Cool Intentions Looks To Rebound in Saturday’s Long Branch Stakes On Monmouth’s Opening-Day Card

May 06, 2025

Cool Intentions, tried briefly on the Triple Crown prep trail this winter, will look to rebound off a dull effort in the Grade 1 Florida Derby when he heads a field of eight 3-year-olds for Saturday’s $100,000 Long Branch Stakes, the feature race on Saturday’s opening-day card at Monmouth Park.

The 89th running of the Long Branch Stakes is at a mile and 70 yards.

Monmouth Park’s 80th season will get underway with a 10-race card. First race post time is 12:50 p.m.

Trained by Jorge Delgado, Cool Intentions posted two wins and a second from three starts as a 2-year-old. The son of Authentic finished fifth in his 3-year-old debut in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 4. He was then eighth in the Florida Derby on March 29.

Owned by Amo Racing, Cool Intentions has been idle since the Florida Derby.

Monmouth Park newcomer Jeiron Barboas is listed to ride.

The Long Branch Stakes field includes Dear Chairman, Lordship, Baby Dukes, Happily Delusional, Harrigan, Kentucky Outlaw and Pascaline. The latter is coming off a close-up third Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct on April 19. Trained by Arnaud Delacour, Pascaline won the Laurel Futurity in his last race as a 2-year-old.

Baby Dukes, trained by Butch Reid, will be making his sixth straight start in stakes company. The son of Maximus Mischief has three wins and three thirds from eight career starts.

Kentucky Outlaw, owned and trained by Felissa Dunn, comes in off a fifth-place finish in the Federico Tesio Stakes at Laurel on April 19. Paco Lopez, seeking his 12th Monmouth Park riding title, has the mount.

The 50-day Monmouth Park meet, which runs through Sept. 14, will feature 51 stakes races worth $7.8 million.

First race post time on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays is 12:50 p.m. Post time for Friday racing, which begins June 20, is 2 p.m.
